I remember many, many years ago when I first asked a Demonstrator about joining Stampin' Up!. I guess you could say that I was looking for a community of like-minded folks who were as excited about stamping, paper crafting, and Stampin' Up! as I was. I was also placing really big orders and a discount would be nice... I could get even more stuff! LOL.
Not to mention, as crafters, we didn't have access to a lot of ideas and inspiration outside of classes or the few crafting "message boards" in those days. We didn't have Pinterest, Instagram, or even Facebook, at that time. Can you imagine?! My word!
I knew that Demonstrators had access to exclusive publications and "chat rooms" (remember those?) where they would get their ideas from. I wanted in on that!!!
Well, imagine my disappointment when she brushed my questions aside - just proceeded to take my latest big (like $300 big) order as if I had never even asked. I left thinking that she must've thought I wasn't "a good enough person" to be a Demonstrator. I was so sad.
Years went by and I was still stamping but attending events with a different Demonstrator in a different town. One evening, she approached me about joining. I think my jaw hit the table. She said "Well, considering how much you are ordering with me every month, you should at least join for the discount!". I said I would think about it. And, I thought about it all the way home. When I got home, I told my Husband: I think I'm going to do it! Then, I made the mistake of telling someone else. Someone I thought would be excited for me. Well, that person immediately crushed my excitement with their response. I sat in my car and cried. They obviously didn't think I was "good enough" either.
Needless to say, I didn't join. Just kept stamping and placing my orders with my Demonstrator.
Fast forward one year. My Demonstrator approached me again. Again, I thought about her words all the way home. Again, I told my Husband I wanted to do it! But, this time, he was the only one I told. And, this time, I did it! I gave myself my Starter Kit for my Birthday. And my journey began!
That was August of 2012. This summer I will celebrate 10 years as a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator! I have never once regretted ordering that Starter Kit. I love being a member of the Demonstrator Family. I love our Team. I love the friends I have made. I really love my Discount too (LOL).
But I really wish I had ignored the people that made me feel "not good enough" and had joined sooner! Because I got way more than that fabulous Discount the day I joined. I got my like-minded and supportive community too!
Why am I telling you all of this? Because, if you have ever considered joining, even if only for that wonderful Discount, I want you to know that there is no reason you shouldn't. It could be the best order you ever place! There is no risk.. no expectations. You can just be a happy shopper - shopping at a discount while enjoying all of the other perks - like I did all of those years ago, or share your love with others and make some income. It's totally up to you!
